My 2 days on Leatherheads as a flapper dancer were dern straight hilarious. Here's a recap:
Call time was at 5am in Winston-Salem Tuesday (yes, I stayed in a hotel the nite before). I got my wardrobe & headed to hair & make-up. Hair=curled under/stuffed under a hat- no biggie. Make-up=flappers enjoyed painting their faces like clowns in the 20s!! Wowie yikes. The make-up artists on this film rocked- had it exactly right on. Love them & the hair girls!
Fast forward thru breakfast & down-time to getting grabbed up to go down to set. It took place in a Speakeasy (jazz club/ people scandalously drinking alcohol/ everybody trying to get laid/ bar deal). They put me by the piano to "dance up on the side of the piano & the pianist." Sweet- I can do that. George Clooney walked right past us to his mark so I guess there's a small chance I'll be able to see myself on screen. We'll see.
Meanwhile, I started chatting with the older gentleman on the piano. We talked about life & love & pretty much just bonded. I made him play a game where he would make up a song for people that walked by according to what he thought their personality was like. (I had just watched The Holiday where Jack Black's character does that & I loved the idea). He totally participated & even made up one with words about me. It was rad. George came up & sat on the piano bench & talked to the pianist (whose name I found out was Randy). I know I've said it before, but George is about 1938740913 times more attractive in person, if you were wondering. He's the nicest guy- so friendly, funny, hard-working, not cocky/arrogant/rude, etc. Love the man. George invited him to dinner & I so badly wanted to say "Oooh, can i come?" but of course I never would. haha. George told Randy that he didn't have to keep his eyes on the piano keys if you know what i'm saying & looked at me. hahaha. Oh my.
Several of the crew guys came & shook Randy's hand telling him it was a pleasure to meet him & I wondered if he was a big deal & I just didn't know it. Another extra came over & shook his hand & asked him to play him a song. He asked for "You've got a friend." Randy said he'd love to & began playing & singing that song from Toy Story. I about crapped my pants. I had no clue that's who he was. Ha! Patrick laughed at me for not knowing & proceeded to explain that Randy Newman was the guy that sang the song on Family Guy on one of the 1st episodes....
He's also won about 8 billion Academy Awards & stuff. Dang. Too funny. I had to flirt/dance at mother flippin Randy Newman. I'm glad we bonded before I knew who he was, otherwise I'd have been more nervous. He totally shared his water bottle with me, too. LOL.
The other funny thing that happened involved George. He was standing by Randy & crazy clown faced flapper at the piano (aka me) and he unintentially stepped over the tape measure that the camera men use to set up shots. I saw it on the ground between his legs & before I knew it the crew guy was pulling that thing up so fast. George's crotch was in serious danger. His package was headed for eminent doom, so what did I do? Without thinking- running purely on my adrenaline infused instincts I GRABBED him & pulled him towards me saying something to the likes of "Oh Mercy! Lookout!" haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. He probably thought I was a crazed stalker, but when I said, "You about lost some important things by that tape measure," he thanked me for saving his life. : ) Other things happened, but I'm not giving any of the scene away. This movie is supposed to come out December 7th of this year & there's already Oscar buzz for costume & possibly....what ese....an original song by Randy Newman. lol for the rest of my life.
