Tori's Wertzy Birthday APRIL 26, 2006

My sister is the coolest, so I decided to give her a little surprise for her 22nd birthday. I kidnapped her yesterday and took her to ATL for a concert. I told her we were going to a broadway show to throw her off, but little did she know....we totally DIDN'T. (not to diss broadway- i'm a huge fan, actually). Anyway, my good friend Jason is the tour manager for Matt Wertz, so we headed to Atlanta where the playas play for the big surprise. I told her we were picking up our tickets for the musical at the box office (otherwise known as the venue for the show). I couldn't have planned it any better- when we walked towards The Loft, she saw Matt's name on the marquee and then he got dropped off and jumped out of the car at the perfect moment. She was definitely surprised. We went in and watched sound check with Jason, met all the band guys, and then went to dinner at the most interesting place ever- R. Thomas. There were live birds everywhere and I couldn't understand anything on the menu, but hilarious Justin the guitarist loved the restaurant so we let him enjoy it and enjoyed it with him. We piled a zillion people in the car and headed back for the show, which was amazing.

If you've never seen Matt Wertz, Josh Hoge, or Matt Kearney before I highly recommend a trip to see them perform live. I've been a Wertz fan forever (my favorite song is "even the streets" ), but I really just heard Kearney & Hoge for the 1st time last nite. Fun, fun show. Josh Hoge is the man. He has an R&B feel that I really liked. His song "360" is amazing- catchy, easy to relate to, perfect for pop radio.(And yes, he's Will Hoge's brother). Matt Kearney is cool, too. He has a slight Chris Martin voice feel, but he sticks in some rap/spoken word stuff to make it unique and fun. He put on a good show. He seemed like a really nice guy.
Matt Wertz has one of my favorite voices ever. I'm obsessed with it. He is a great guy and puts on an incredible show. His band is the coolest, too. I loved everyone I met yesterday. Tori had a blast and the birthday trip was definitely a success.
