Thankful November 19, 2006

As this Thanksgiving holiday quietly approaches I'm reminded of the many blessings in my life that I am so very thankful for. Staring at my blurry computer screen and contemplating what to write, the tears begin to well up. I honestly can't believe how blessed I am! I love this time of year- the feeling it gives me, the gratitude that overwhelms my heart.

Over the past 3 months I've started keeping a "daily blessings" journal. At the end of each day I write down the date and the cool things, big or small, that happened for me. Whether I got a sweet parking spot at Target or a surprise gift in the mail, whether I heard the song I love on the radio or had a sale on a house, I take note of it. It's funny how you can have the worst day ever, but still be able to come up with blessings. Doing this has really put "being thankful" into perspective for me. It's so easy to concentrate on the bad things going on in life or the things I don't have, but I swear focusing on the good has really changed who I am as a person. I'm happier than I've ever been. God is good.

This Thanksgiving I have so much to be thankful for- an incredible family, amazing friends new and old, the greatest opportunities of my life, etc. etc. I encourage you to focus on your blessings, no matter how small. Thanksgiving should be a special time for everyone, no matter who you are or what you're going through. You're alive, right?

And thus concludes my sermon : )
